I am, officially, a GP's assistant.

Now off to be a teacher... I'm not going to spend my entire working life in threats such as: "if you don't do what I tell you to do, I shall blow your brains out with my gun"... that person hopped by for a mosquito bite that had vanished over three weeks ago, but was afraid of malaria... come on folks, Malaria? In Holland? When you've never been further away than 10 miles from your home town? The past half year have been full of these threads, including at the weekend- and night-surgery where I had a parttime job. Not all threats were addressed to me, also to my colleagues... I can't stand it anymore. Drug addicts, pimps wanting their "goods" to be clean from STD's and pregnancies aborted, threatening at gunpoint, knives, other weaponry and verbally hurt so much, it's hard to sleep at night, et cetera.

The thing is: as a nurse or doctor, you're protected by law and all sorts of insurances given and made by law. So when I threaten you, as a nurse or doctor, with lots of pain and ouchies if I don't get it my way, you are protected by all sorts of laws and organisations you can hide behind. Eventually, you, as a healthcare professional, would be able to sue my ass for threatening you in the line of work.

As a GP's assistant, you're not protected. It still doesn't exist and it won't exist in the near future. You're an outlaw, on your own, if something happens, folks always make it look like it's your fault. Insurance is a real bitch and so is security by laws and organisations. Most assistants quit their job at age 30, or when suffering from a nervous breakdown. Plus the payment is really low. I don't want to get a small salary for threats, hands around my throat and folks waving knifes and guns around to stress their non-existent matter of urgency.

Subject: was supposed to be History, it's turned into Biology. Why? Because of my background, my own history and the fact I adore plants, nature, evolution and other stuff. There's no work as a history teacher, and let's face it: as a GP's assistant at where I'm from... for there are too many history teachers already and too many GP assistants...

Folks, over and out.

Hey Sista, my sincere cogratulation on becoming a GP assistant. :glomp: You did great job, I'm proud of you. Have you celebrated already? ^^Throw a party! Go to pub! Its not something that happens everyday. :D

About becoming a teacher: it's a good choice :D Judging by your interests you could go for a vet or an archivist as well (both are wanted professions right now).

Don't you worry about the troubles in school; they are problems in every job involving people. The key is to know how to avoid them, or solve the conflicts. And this is what you learn during the teacher training, the more you benefit from training - the better teacher you become. (No one is in-born teacher, good teachers are well-trained).

Also, don't believe guys telling you how hard teaching is. C'mon, it's NOT miner's job. People should stop exaggerating. I had the internships in primary, high schools and tutouring with collegue students and working people, I have a clue about what I'm talking about.

There's only 1 thing you should take into consideration. Are you able to devote extra time, after your work hours to teaching activities? Preparing for classes, is just hell time-consuming... And unprepared teacher, who improvises, reads from book is just walking disaster.

On the other hand, it gives so much satisfaction to see how people improve/learn thanks to you. It's a great feeling!

thank you so much sweetheart, this strengthens me to continue on my path to become a teacher ^^

Indeed, it's not a miner's job, though I expect it to be heavy as well. I was lucky to have a few great listeners and to have mostly the audience captivated by my words in the past; I can only hope it will be the same in the future ^^

Extra time after work hours? As in: finally I've got a real hobby? Checking stuff, preparing things for class and other time consuming things? yush! that sounds like fun to me ^^ (instead of: surfing the internet, watching the television or staring out of the window ^^; )

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :glomps:

However, let me warn you: teacher isn't the easiest job either... I could tell you stories (ok, I work at a vocational school, which means not the most disciplined kids - ahm, young adults - but still...)

(My sister studies to become a chemistry/biology teacher, by the way...)

Thank you!

Thank you for the warning O_o here in Holland there's a huge lack of discipline as well. There was a time school had to be fun, and nowadays you have to figure out for yourself what you need to learn for your diploma. So too much freedom and no one to guide you decently through time. That means too much stress at the end of a year and/or period...

Though... I love to talk about my favourite subjects (human body, nature, behaviour, cells, et cetera) Perhaps a bit too much ^^; maybe I can captivate them or at least bore "the poor kiddies" to sleep? ^^;

(nice, very nice, so we're distant colleagues in the future? )
